How-to: Build a iPhone-Controlled R/C Car
Layering different simple systems together to perform one complex task is really at the heart of what engineering is all about. In this project we show how it is possible to utilize different technologies and piece them together to controll an inxpensive RC Car, with an iphone. With the nerdkit serving as the bridge between the computer and the R/C Car, it is as an example of how useful microcontrollers can be when they serve as the glue that makes complex systems work together, and how with an understanding of microcontrollers a neat system like this one is achievable as a Do-It-Yourself weekend project. too much extensive and dangerous bullshit to go throught just to play with a toy

why would you want to write a program for the iphone to then talk to a computer then to a transmitter to then relay this information to the car?
surely a break through would be to talking directly between iphone and car and cut out the other things?
I liked the cup of tea at the end tho

That’s a good story.

sorry about your grandma, anyways, it seems that grandmas like to give out those cars, my friends grandma gave them a few.

that guy likes to shakes his hands a lot

Or just add potentiometers and some PWM to the controller, that would have been the most practical solution.

useless just drive with the normal remote control

Nice idea.I will add new in it to control by human voice which is sound energy and it’s transformation through into kinetic energy.the voice and frequincy command controller will control the exact motion and activity of the object.moving the object via touch screenn is easy seems but as well on voice commands to saves more time.

neat idea.. but really?? Your using an ipod to tell the computer to tell the nerd kit to tell the controller to go?? REALLY? at that point its better to just pick up the controller.. Its not worth the hassel

Did annyone understand how to do it?????????

haha exact oppisite for me
January 31st, 2010 at 3:12 am
Haha all that stuff was mostly understandable for me except for the physical stuff. Im good with software, not with wires

PHP put file, python read it and interpret it to send command to the car?? remember a word “DELAY” :). How long the time for the car to receive command?

January 31st, 2010 at 4:56 am
what program do you have to have to have on the iphone and does it work on ipod touch?
January 31st, 2010 at 5:07 am
Hmm… since you’re already combining RC and Wifi, why not add a wireless camera that streamed video to your computer and then to a custom program on your iphone. You could then control the car with a series of on-screen touches over the video, or even the built in accelerometers like in many iphone games! It would be neat for driving around your house. If you were going to do all this it would be worth constructing a custom car/chassis, but this could end up being a very cool project!
