Dodge Avenger-based Starster Heading to Frankfurt

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

STARTECH GmbH, a German auto tuning company exclusively for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep models adds up a new item on their product lineup of tuned up models.

STARTECH has created the STARSTER, a new concept model based on the Dodge Avenger mid size sedan that aims to “bridge the gap between classic old-school and modern designs”, according to the German auto tuner. The car will made its world premiere at the 2007 International Motor Show (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany. The new STARECH STARSTER comes with a wide range of exclusive features from the German tuner starting from the front grilles up to the tail lamps, and in the interiors.

Outside, STARTECH gave the STARSTER a pearlescent ivory exterior color highlighted by matte-orange contrasts and decals on hood and rear. This represents the aggressive appearance of 1970s model of American muscle cars, according to STARTECH. Other exclusive exterior features of the STARTECH STARSTER include sporty STARSTER front apron, large air dams, stylized bumper horns, new STARTECH headlamp design with LED technology and distinctive Dodge crosshairs, and muscle car hood scoop. In addition, the STARTECH STARSTER is also equipped with striking front and rear fender flares to match the car’s wheels and tires. Complementing the fender flares include STARTECH’s polished Monostar IV five-spoke wheels measuring 9J x 22 covered with 245/30 R 22 tires in the front, and 10.5J x 22 wheels with size 295/25 R 22 tires in the rear. The rear portion of the STARTECH STARSTER comes with a redesigned styling and includes features like acrylic trunk lid molding, innovative taillight unit with LED lights, and stainless-steel sport exhaust system with integrated tail pipes.

The STARTECH STARSTER also comes with comfortable and elegant interior components to match the concept car’s sleek exterior. Interior color trims are matched with the exterior color scheme like the leather seats with sports upholstery. Even the floor of the STARTECH STARSTER is made of leather and features waffle-pattern stitching.

Now on the technical side, the STARTECH STARSTER offers a powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine under its hood. This top of the line power unit is capable of pumping out 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) at 6,400 rpm and pulls out 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) amount of peak torque at 3,600 rpm. The engine also features variable valve timing (VVT) and coupled with a five-speed manual transmission, powering the front wheels. With this powertrain package, the STARTECH STARSTER can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 165 mph (265 kph).

Other exclusive technical feats include locking differential, height-adjustable coil-over sport suspension, selectable damper settings, and STARTECH high-performance brake system. STARTECH probably retains the Dodge altezza lights and other Dodge components. Anyway, STARTECH will announce the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of this model soon.

Dodge Avenger and Nitro Headed for the UK Market

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Starting this summer, British car enthusiasts will have the chance to ride new vehicles from DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group division. Straight from the company’s headquarters in Michigan, Chrysler Group will bring the new Dodge Nitro SUV and Dodge Avenger sedan to roll out in dealer showrooms all over the United Kingdom. Chrysler Group also released the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the two vehicles.

According to Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK:

“People want to drive a car that helps them to stand out from the crowd and still manages to offer great value for money. Our new Dodge vehicles deliver bold and aggressive styling together with masses of standard kit that make them both incredibly good value.”

First off is the all-new 4-door Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicle (SUV). The vehicle retains its boxy and aggressive body styling with 20-inch and chrome-clad aluminum wheels and performance tires. Compared to the VW Touareg mid size SUV with trapezoidal VW grille, the new Nitro features Dodge’s signature crosshair grille on its front fascia that marks its identity.

“In a world of mostly bland competitors, the Dodge Nitro has the design, engineering and performance to inspire drivers and shake up the mid-size SUV market”, says Peter Lambert. “The Nitro boasts excellent overall performance and competitive fuel economy, as well as a comprehensive range of safety, security and convenience features including the new ‘Load ‘N Go’ rear floor cargo system.” he added

Available in three model trims, UK customers will have a choice of two power plants for the new Dodge Nitro: an all-new 2.8-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine and a 3.7-litre petrol engine.

The all-new 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine delivers 174 hp and produces 339 lb.-ft or peak torque, mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the more powerful 3.7-litre SOHC V6 petrol engine pumps out 203 hp and produces 232 lb.-ft. amount of pulling force torque output. The engine is combined with a standard automatic transmission powering the vehicle’s 4×4 drivetrain configuration.

The new Dodge Nitro will roll out in the UK market with the following MSRP: 2.8 CRD SE (MT) - £18,990 ($37,368 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (MT) - £22,490 ($44,255 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (AT) £23,490 ($46,223 USD); 3.7 SXT (AT) - £23,490 ($46,223 USD).

Meanwhile, the Dodge Avenger sedan comes in two model trim levels – Avenger SE and Avenger SXT. Both models are available with either a petrol or a turbo diesel engine with 2.0 liter of displacement. The 2.0-liter petrol engine is capable of delivering 154 hp and produces 140 lb.-ft. amount of torque, coupled with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Base MSRP for Dodge Avenger SE with 2.0-liter petrol engine is at 14,995 British pounds ($29,500 USD).

For fuel efficient customers, the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is available with power output of 38 hp and 229 lb.-ft. amount of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. MSRP for the Dodge Avenger SE with this type of engine starts at 15,995 ($31,475).

Green-light Received for ‘the Road Avenger’ Novel

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Based on the 1985 Data-East laserdisc feature “Road Blaster,” G-Mode of Japan has given a green-light to MMP Publishing’s “The Road Avenger” novel, to be released in 2009.

Written by Mary Margaret Park (author and poet) and co-produced by Sekrett Scilensce (composer and producer), “The Road Avenger” is the story of Blake Sanders, a man whose destiny is forever changed when a gang known as S.C.U.M. (Secret Criminal Underground Movement) slay his wife.

Methodically promoting anarchy and the breakdown of society, S.C.U.M. seeks to hold the world hostage, devouring one city at a time.

Before the reader’s eyes are the politicians and behind the lies, there’s the S.C.U.M. — Blindly avenging a love once known, “The Road Avenger” must decide what is right — In spite of his wishes to remain an honorable member of humanity, Blake treads the fine lines between virtue and dishonor.

“The original concept is ‘Mad Max’ like,” author Mary Margaret Park explained, “So we’ve decided to make ‘The Road Avenger’ a psychological action drama, which will end up like a cross between ‘Mad Max,’ ‘Ronin,’ and Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Traffic.’ Though we are expanding on a simple plotline, we are straying far from the typical Hollywood attitudes that engulf many fine stories.”

Licensors in Tokyo were pleased and gave the project a thumbs-up — A total of four chapters were showcased in a mock 6×9 binding, emulating the look and feel of the finished product.

Fans of “Road Blaster” (a.k.a. “Road Avenger” in the U.S.A.) can visit http://www.theroadavenger.com to obtain more details about the novelization and are encouraged to join the demo club.
