Earth’s Mightiest Super-heroes

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

In September of 1963, the first issue of the Avengers comic, boasting Earth’s Mightiest Super-heroes on the cover, brought together Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Hulk, and Iron Man in an effort to defeat Loki.  Seeing how well the five heroes work together, Ant-Man suggested forming a team and the others agreed.  The name “Avengers” came courtesy of Wasp.

Foreshadowing the ever-revolving door that would define Avengers membership in the years to come, the line-up of Avengers changed immediately.  Consumed by guilt over how much the other members feared him, Hulk left the team and Ant-Man underwent the first of several name changes and began calling himself Giant-Man.

While trying to find Hulk and get him to rejoin the team, the Avengers discovered the frozen body of Captain America. Long believed to be dead since the end of World War II, Captain instead had been frozen.  After Captain America joined the team, the classic line-up of the Avengers was complete and that group went on to fight the Masters of Evil, Kang the Conqueror, Wonder Man, Count Nefaria and other villains together.

Soon the Avengers underwent another personnel change, as all the members but Captain America quit and were replaced by Hawkeye, the Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver, all former villains. Eventually, that line-up is joined by Henry Pym, the Wasp, Hercules, the Black Knight, the Black Panther, Vision, and the Black Widow.

Several important storylines took place in the 1970s.  The first disbanding of the team took place during that decade, as Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man were replaced by Skrulls who used their positions to disband the team.  The debut of the Scarlet Witch-Vision love story occurred during this time period as well, and that story would prove to be of vital importance.

One of the more controversial elements of the 1970s Avengers storylines came courtesy of Henry Peter Gyrich .  As the Avengers’ liaison to the United States National Security Council, Gyrich became a frequent pain for the Avengers.  One of his demands was that the team be trimmed down to seven members and that Falcon be admitted as a member in order to be compliant with Affirmative Action laws.  This caused Hawkeye to lose his position in the team to Falcon for a time, until Falcon quit the team.

The 1980s saw an expansion of Avengers membership, to include Mockingbird, She-Hulk, Tigra, and Namor. It was also during this period that a new team called the West Coast Avengers premiered.

Writer John Byrne established that the children of the Scarlet Witch and Vision were illusions.  That realization drove Scarlet Witch insane for a time, though she would temporarily recover.

Years later, however, Brian Michael Bendis took the Scarlet Witch’s insanity to a further level in the “Avengers Disassembled” storyline. Due to the insanity brought on by the loss of her children, the Scarlet Witch began a series of attacks on the team. While the Scarlet Witch were ultimately stopped, Ant-Man and Hawkeye were killed and the mansion destroyed.  The Avengers decided to go their separate ways.

Soon after the Dissembled storyline, the Avengers was rebooted into the New Avengers, a comic full of heroes such as Wolverine, Luke Cage, and Spider-Man, in addition to the traditional Captain America and Iron Man.  The new line-up offended many long-time Avengers fans as they saw it as not being faithful to what the Avengers had always been.  Many critics called it a “Justice League clone.” Still, others were happy with the new line-up.

The next major shakeup in the Avengers occurred with the Superhero Registration Act.  The Act caused the Avengers to pick either Captain America’s anti-registration side or Iron Man’s pro-registration side. Following the Civil War event, the Registration Act compliant Mighty Avengers joined the underground New Avengers in monthly publication.

Though there have undoubtedly been many changes to the Marvel Comics Avengers and their line-up,  the basic heart of the team remains.  As the book itself states: “And there came a day, day unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves untied against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born - to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Through the years, their roster has prospered, changing many times, but their glory has never been denied! Heed the call, then - for now, the Avengers Assemble!”

Dodge Avenger Driver Falls Short of Winning First Canadian Nascar Race

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

The Dodge Dealers 200 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is the first NASCAR stock car race in Canadian soil and Dodge Avenger driver Mark Dilley aimed to win it to complement his feat of winning the last CASCAR race last September. While he has prepared well for the race, he fell short and only finished second after Don Thomson Jr. Nevertheless, his performance was good enough to make him a strong contender for the series’ championship early in the season. On September 12 last year, NASCAR completed the purchase of CASCAR and announced that the Canadian Tire Series will take over the previous racing activities in Canada.

Early in the race, Dilley seems to be in control and at one time even led the race. An incident with Kerry Micks though saw Dilley pushed at the back of the field. “It was pretty crazy, that’s for sure,” says Dilley about the whole race. “One of the things I feel badly about was getting into Kerry. That was my fault. I just drove it in way too hard. Then we got sent to the back and we had some different issues. I was spun around and that may have been a bit of a payback, but I kind of deserved it and I’ve got no problem with that.”

After Dilley was pushed at the back of the field, his team worked on the steering system of his car with it’s Dodge body parts to enable him to get back to the race. The improvements took three stops which finally gave him the chance to get back to the front of the field. “We came in and could only take two right-side tires during our first stop because of when the caution happened and how far back we were. Then when we did make the stop for the two left-side tires, the set just didn’t match up. We came in after that and made an adjustment and then the car was good at the end.”

During the later stages of the race, Dilley made his move and with 15 laps remaining, he managed to get to the fifth spot. After a yellow flag flew, Dilley found himself on the third spot. With five laps remaining, he managed to overtake Peter Gibbons. Eventually, he caught up with the race winner Thomson during the last lap. Going on a tight race to the finish, Dilley was not able to take the win but he finished only 0.126 seconds behind Thomson.

Can absolute zero overpower the power of gravity?

Monday, January 18th, 2010

: I thought of this because as the universe gets colder it keeps expanding / doing the opposite of what gravity would make it do.
And imagine if a black hole was put under absolute zero and there was zero gravity, even if this is done on a micro-blk-hole this could show us how blk holes work and maybe look like inside?
lastly absolute zero is when all kinetic motion stops/ceases to exist, does that include light? does it just freeze too?

4 Main Categories of Human Touch Massage Chairs

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Human Touch massage chairs are right up at the top of the list in the massage chair world. They are a perfect example of what any other massage chair can aspire to be. It goes without saying that an actual human touch makes the best massage, but since Human Touch comes so close, the company picked an appropriate name. The technology and engineering that goes into their products is mighty close to replicating what a real human touch gives. Kudos to them. What I find fascinating is how people turn to modern technology for relief from muscle tension and other stresses that we all experience a a result of today’s fast paced world. Technology that helps balance out the stresses caused by other technologies. Human Touch massage chairs come in different shapes and sizes, and each has its own unique contribution to make. There are four main categories of their massage chairs that I want to tell you about briefly.

First, the Casual line is lovingly referred to as the iJoy massage chair line. These chairs are cool and fashionable. They have a chic look to them and are perfect for any modern apartment, house, or office. Getting a chair to duplicate the feel of a massage takes a lot of technology and Human Touch puts many patented technologies into their massage chairs. The iJoy is packed with them.

The second category of Human Touch massage chairs is the Signature series. These are known for their sturdy and reliable construction and classic good looks. High grade leathers and beautiful hardwood accents make these pleasing to look at as well as comfortable to use. These chairs also have the ability for the user to customize their massage experience as well as using a variety of preprogrammed massage cycles. The Signature series also has a built in calf and foot massager. I can tell you from personal experience that this feature alone makes this chair worth every penny. I love the way this feature enhances the massage experience.

The third category of chairs is the Healthy Furniture line consisting of their Perfect Chairs. These come in a variety of top quality materials like micro suede and soft premium leather. Rather than actual massage chairs, these are primarily zero-gravity chairs that are designed to position the body in a neutral position to help counteract gravity’s negative effects. The antigravity chair concept is one that has been around for a while, originally developed by NASA, but Human Touch excels at making theirs fashionable as well as comfortable.

Finally, the fourth category of Human Touch massage chair is the Elite line. These are the HT-1650 and the HT-7450 chairs. Both of these have Human Touch’s patented technologies built in that include preprogrammed massage routines and customization options. They also give the user the option of having heat applied to their back.

Technology isn’t a fix all, but when it comes to Human Touch massage chairs it comes pretty close. The way tensioners, rollers, kneaders, and massagers come to bear on our bodies is surprisingly similar to what an actual massage therapist would do. Light a few candles, set some nice meditative music on in the background, settle into your massage chair and enjoy the relaxation and stress relief that savvy massage aficionados have come to expect from Human Touch massage chairs.

Dodge Avenge Commuter-stress Grind

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Commuters are traveling distances to make a living. Statistics say over 10 million consumers drive more than 60 minutes each way to work and research shows that commuting can take a toll on a consumer’s health. This is the reason why commuting poses to be a daily grind on individuals.

In recognition of the National Stress Awareness Day on April 17, Dodge, a division of the Chrysler Group, is going great lengths to aid commuters to lessen the daily stress grind. In this regard, the automaker is inviting annoyed commuters to write an essay about why they believe they have the most stressful daily drive and are most deserving of a new car.

Participants can register and submit their entries online. During registration, participants will be asked to submit a 250-word essay answering the following questions: “What makes your commute so stressful?” and “How would owning a 2008 Dodge Avenger relieve your stress?” Participants must be 18 years or older, and a holder of a valid driver’s license at the time of entry.

The lucky writer will be flown out to Los Angeles, a territory famed for the worst commute situations. There, the winner will take part in Dodge’s “Avenge Your Commute” special event scheduled Monday which falls on April 16. In the said event, the winner will also take home an all-new 2008 Dodge Avenger.

The new Avenger from the automaker offers more catchy Dodge body parts accented by new features like the Chill Zone(TM), a MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment Radio and a heated/cooled cupholder. The features are designed to alleviate the drive feel of car occupants at the same time reduce the stress of commuting. The automaker teams up with internationally renowned life coach, Dr. Martha Beck, to supply tips on improving some of the stress that goes along with battling bumper-to-bumper traffic.

“Let’s face it; not every commute is going to be a fast ride,” said Beck, a best-selling author and columnist for O, The Oprah Magazine. “Accepting that fact from the word ‘go’ is probably the most important thing we can do to keep our commuter-stress levels low. Then, when we’re on the road dealing with slowdowns and pile-ups, we can use all kinds of strategies to get even more relaxed.”

Beck added, “Ultimately, even bumper-to-bumper gridlocks can become opportunities to get back in touch with ourselves and turn a potentially stressful situation into a positive experience. With a little conscious attention, the commute we’ve come to dread can become a genuinely enjoyable part of our lives.”

“Commuters are spending a lot of time in their cars each day and we believe it is important for them to be comfortable and confident that their car will get them to their destination safely,” said Tom Loveless, the Director at Dodge Brand Marketing and Global Communications. “The Dodge Avenger offers a perfect blend of reliability, innovative technologies and bold styling, which sets it apart from the other mid-size vehicles on the road. By awarding one lucky commuter with a new Avenger, we hope to help him or her jumpstart their commute, and make the ride more pleasurable and less stressful.”
